Delicate Flower – Chapter 118

Chapter 118 – Rumors

At first, that sounded fine. However, what sort of person was Pei Yan? How could he possibly hesitate before answering her?

Yu Tang grew suspicious and it seemed as if he was saying this to pacify her and her father.

But before she could ponder further, Pei Yan continued, “What were you doing at the local school?”

The suspicion in Yu Tang’s heart deepened.

Pei Yan did not seem like a person who cared about such mundane matters.

By asking this question, he was diverting the topic.

Then just what was amiss about Gu Chang’s visit with Shen Shanyan?

Yu Tang was intrigued. However, Pei Yan was unlikely to answer her doubts, so Yu Tang did not press the issue and spoke about why she had gone to the local school, and made a point of mentioning Li Jun, “I didn’t expect him to be back in Lin’an City too.”

Rizhao was quite far from Lin’an, and it took at least three months for a two-way trip, and even fewer people returned as quickly as Li Jun did, not mentioning the fact that he was supposedly going there to study.

Pei Yan visibly froze.

This made Yu Tang’s curiosity grow even more.

The Gu family called Li Duan over to teach him a lesson, and Gu Chang and Li Jun appeared in Lin’an City one after the other, to say that there was no correlation between the two incidents was impossible in Yu Tang’s mind. Judging from Pei Yan’s reaction, it was obvious that something was going on.

She remembered that Pei Yan had a penchant for people to speak frankly, so she wondered if she should ask Pei Yan right now or ask him about it secretly without her father’s knowledge, when she saw Ah Ming run in to report, “Third Master, Master Gu and Mr. Shen came to visit you!”

They arrived so quickly!

Not only Yu Tang, but Yu Wen, was also a little taken aback.

In contrast, Pei Yan, as though he had predicted this, nodded impassively and said in an apologetic tone, “Please excuse me, I have to meet them. I shall return shortly.”

Yu Wen and Yu Tang quickly stood up and said their goodbyes, “It’s rare for Master Gu to visit Lin’an City. Furthermore, it’s not like we have anything important, so we’ll visit again another time.”

Pei Yan did not insist for them to stay and asked Pei Man to see them off, as he went to see Gu Chang and Shen Shan Yan.

On the way back, Yu Wen whispered to Yu Tang, “I don’t think it’s just a simple meeting of acquaintances between Third Master Pei and the eldest young master of the Gu family. What do you think? Could it be that I’m just paranoid?”

Yu Tang couldn’t help but mentally approve of her father’s intuition.

Furthermore, not only did she had the same feeling, she also had the impression that Pei Yan had something troubling him.

However, she felt that Pei Yan’s struggles and pain were not something that ordinary people like her could relate to, so it was better to remain oblivious rather than snoop around and cause needless trouble.

“I don’t think so.” Yu Tang smiled and coaxed her father, “Perhaps it’s because both of them achieved great merit during their youth and thus were always compared to each other. Therefore, although they may not have been familiar with each other or have any familial ties, but they are still acquainted with each other. “

It was merely her speculation, and she did not expect to convince her father with her words.

Yu Wen nodded his head and said, “You have a point.” He left the matter aside and asked about when Yu Tang and Yu Yuan were planning to visit their family’s countryside estate. “The weather is getting warmer, so you might as well stay at the countryside for a couple more days. I don’t expect you to learn everything about cultivating crops, but you should at least be aware of the things affecting the harvest, so no one will be able to trick you once you officially take over.”

Yu Tang pursed her lips and smiled, saying, “I’ll be there in the next two days.”

As for staying at the countryside estate for a few days, it also depends on her elder brother!

Yu Yuan had just gotten married, so of course he didn’t want to leave Lady Xiang at home by herself while he went to spend a few days at the countryside. Yu Tang encouraged him to take Lady Xiang with him, saying “Sister-in-law grew up in the countryside, so perhaps she is more familiar with these matters than we are, and we can also ask her for advice when the time comes.”

Yu Yuan’s eyes lit up as he listened and immediately used this as an excuse to take Lady Xiang with him when he goes to the countryside.

Although Madam Wang was perceptive, it was mostly towards outsiders rather than family members, so she agreed to this deeply flawed excuse without the slightest suspicion. Not only that, she also urged Lady Xiang to take good care of Yu Tang, saying “You are her big sister-in-law!”

Lady Xiang clearly understood why she was coming along with Yu Yuan, and she found it both amusing and endearing. Not only did she respectfully comply to her mother-in-law’s wishes, but also prepared a lot of food early in the morning and kept asking Yu Tang to eat while on road.

Yu Tang smilingly took Lady Xiang’s arm and sought her advice on management of the fields.

Lady Xiang didn’t hide anything from her but told her everything she knew and said, “You don’t have to worry so much. If you encounter any problems in the future, you can always come and ask me directly.”

Yu Tang nodded repeatedly, and when Lady Xiang had settled down at the Yu family’s countryside home, she and Yu Yuan went to the mountain forest to see the sea buckthorn trees that had been moved from the Pei family.

The trees were growing well and looked like they had survived, but they were originally expected to bear fruit, but there weren’t any signs yet. The worker caring for the land muttered, “It doesn’t look like it will bear fruit. I think young master and young lady have been duped!”

Yu Tang was uncertain as to whether the trees will bear fruit. The only reason why she made this decision was because of Pei Yan’s success in her previous life. Therefore, even though she obtained negative feedback, she wasn’t discouraged. She and Yu Yuan circled around the land and went to look at the fields and spoke to the experienced old farmers before returning.

Lady Xiang had instructed the accompanying maids to prepare the lunch. After eating, Yu Yuan brought them to fish in the small stream nearby…… For the few days they spent at Yu family’s countryside residence, it was as if they went to play and enjoy instead of doing proper work. When they returned to the city, they even loaded a half cart worth of fresh cherries, ducks, rice and other goods.

Madam Chen laughingly scolded them for being “naughty” and asked Old Aunty Chen to help them unload the cart.

Yu Tang pointed to one of the bamboo baskets and said, “This is for the Pei family, so don’t mix them with the others in the kitchen.”

Madam Chen lifted the blue floral cloth that was covering the bamboo basket and peered inside, saying, “These are wild duck eggs, aren’t they? It’s a waste to send them over like this, why don’t we make preserved salted eggs and then send them over. These type of wild duck eggs taste best when salted.”

Yu Tang wasn’t familiar with these things, so she naturally let Madam Chen do as she pleased.

Lady Xiang had not even been married for three months, so it was the perfect time to impress her in-laws. She smiled and said she would stay and help Madam Chen. “My Aunt’s family kept many ducks, and we used to make many salted eggs.”

Madam Chen was only too happy to let her new daughter-in-law show her talents and smilingly agreed, even praising Lady Xiang, saying “That’s really nice of you to offer your help. I’ll ask old Aunty Chen to inform your mother-in-law that you will be having your lunch here before you return.”

Yu Yuan was concerned for his wife’s wellbeing and wanted her to return home quickly and rest, but Yu Tang gave him a look, so he could only squeeze Lady Xiang’s hand comfortingly before following Yu Tang to the study. As soon as he stepped into the study, he asked impatiently, “What did you want to say? Why didn’t you mention it on the way home?”

Really, once he had a wife he forgot all about his sister!

Yu Tang pulled a face at Yu Yuan and lowered her voice, saying “Brother, let’s arrange a time to visit Suzhou City. I want to inquire about the maritime business.”

For some reason, there were more people doing maritime business in Suzhou than in Hangzhou.

Yu Yuan’s heart skipped a beat. Thinking that this sister of his was up to her tricks again, he said tensely, “You, why are you asking about that? Didn’t we agree that our family would not join in? At that time, Third Master Pei even introduced us to the Song family. Didn’t you refuse?”

Yu Tang wanted to take advantage of this time to join the Jiang family’s shipping business.

She whispered, “I’m not interested in doing maritime trading, I just want to invest a little and earn some returns, using my personal funds. It would likely require a lot of silver to get that mountain forest of ours in good condition.”

If she took silver directly from Yu Bo, then how could that be considered as being independent and self-reliant?

More importantly, Yu Wen treated everyone equally and gave both her and Yu Yuan 2,000 taels of silver each for their own personal use from the auction proceeds.

These words struck a chord with Yu Yuan.

After thinking about it, he replied, “I’ll go home and discuss it with your sister-in-law.”

Was this also something that had to be discussed with Lady Xiang?

Yu Tang was dumbfounded.

Yu Yuan bashfully added, “It’s rare for us to have the chance to go to Suzhou City, so we should have your sister-in-law come along and experience it too.”

Very well.

In her elder brother’s heart, sister-in-law was the greatest.

As Yu Tang glowered at Yu Yuan, a tinge of envy crept into her heart.

In the afternoon, Lady Xiang helped Madam Chen make some salted eggs, and Madam Wang came over to join in.

They spent the afternoon in the veranda, mixing wood ashes.

Madam Wang and Madam Chen chatted, “Do you think Old Master Li would be transferred or promoted? The Li patriarchal house had already split from Li Duan’s family. I wonder if they will regret their decision.”

Only then did Yu Tang learn that Li Duan’s father, Li Yi, had completed his three-year term and gone back to the capital to report to the Ministry of Officials. The new governor of Rizhao had already taken up his post, so would Li Yi stay in the capital or would he be transferred to another post? Would he be promoted to a higher rank or be transferred to a same position? There was a lot of discussion in Lin’an these days about this and everyone was closely watching movements of the Li residence. The reason why Li Jun returned was also to bring back some of Li Yi’s belongings from his previous tenure in Rizhao.

Everyone was commenting snidely, “What belongings? I’m afraid they should be the silver he embezzled during his tenure, right? Isn’t it said that for a three-year governorship, 100,000 silver taels were paid? Master Li is the governor, and has been the governor of several areas in the past as well!”

Madam Chen didn’t care much about this, but it would be better for the Yu family if the Li family could continue with their status quo.

She laughed unconcernedly as she mixed the wood ashes, “I think the Li family’s methods are a little suspicious. In Lin’an City, it’s not like nobody has worked as an official before, but has anyone’s family been rumoured to have returned with so much silver like theirs?”

Li Duan was greatly upset by the rumors.

He lashed out at Li Jun. “I merely asked you to send some things back, how did word get out that our family had sent 100,000 taels of silver back from Rizhao? Who spread the rumors? What kind of people did you hire?”

Li Jun lowered his head and did not say a word.

He was clearly three years younger than Li Duan, but his expression was wooden, appearing as if he was two or three years older than Li Duan. People who were unaware of this would think that Li Jun was the older brother and Li Duan was the younger one.

Li Duan could not help but curse in his heart as he observed.

Ever since the Wei Xiaoshan’s incident, Li Jun had not been able to recover from the blow he received, and lost much of his vigor.

He paced around the room a few times irritably, his anger was suppressed in his heart and as he stopped to have a proper lecture with Li Jun, Lin Jue barged in.

Li Duan was greatly annoyed.

This was the Li family, not the Lin family, but Lin Jue entered their inner rooms as if he was taking a stroll along a smooth road that no one had ever thought to block his way.

However, before he could show that bit of displeasure on his face, Lin Jue already spoke up in a deep voice, “Ah Duan, I have investigated the matter clearly, it was Eleventh Master Peng who started the rumor.”

Chapter 117 – Suppression

Apart from that, Yu Tang could not think of anything else Gu Chang would come to Lin’an for.

Still, why did Gu Chang think of asking Pei Yan about Li Duan?

In her previous life, there was no indication of any sort of friendship between the Pei and Gu families.

Perhaps it was because the Li and Gu families were related by marriage and thus the Gu family drew closer to the Li family rather than the Pei family?

Yu Tang looked at Pei Yan.

Her curiosity was practically written on her face, making it impossible for Pei Yan to ignore even if he wanted to.

He was both amused and exasperated, saying, “What’s wrong with him coming to ask me? Am I not more trustworthy than Li Duan?”

It’s only because both of you were dual honor imperial scholars, right?

People in academia acknowledge a person’s worth based on scholarly merit.

Yu Tang scoffed internally.

Yu Wen hurriedly asked, “Did the Gu family’s eldest master say anything?”

Scholars were considered high in social status, so if Gu Chang expressed his displeasure with Yu Tang, or even pretended to unintentionally gripe about it in front of outsiders, Yu Tang’s reputation would be ruined.

His fears were not unreasonable.

Pei Yan looked at Yu Tang.

Yu Tang felt it was unlikely.

Previously, Gu Xi’s accompanying maids boasted about their family’s eldest young master in front of her, but she only listened in passing. In this life, she had her own opinions. Although she felt that what Gu Xi’s accompanying maids said was definitely biased, judging by what Gu Chang did in his previous life, he was an ambitious person who wanted to make a name for himself in history, so he would have valued his reputation highly and would not have jeopardised his reputation for the sake of trifling things and leave people with the impression that he was trying to prove himself superior over her.

Pei Yan inwardly snorted as he watched.

Unexpectedly, she held so much confidence in Gu Chaoyang.

She didn’t even know him!

Had she previously enquired about Gu Chaoyang?

Didn’t she realize that there were more fake gentlemen in this world than decent ones?

At this thought, he suddenly felt his mood dampen, turning somewhat unpleasant. He decided to share with Yu Tang what Gu Chang said, “Gu Chaoyang was grateful to the Yu family for telling them about what happened. However, he felt that what Lady Yu did was a little inappropriate – Li Duan certainly had his faults, but it’s not good to judge the rights and wrongs of others. By sharing this matter so openly without any attempt to cover it up, the second old master of the Gu family got so angry that he spent several days lying in bed recuperating.”

Yu Tang’s eyes widened.

Since when did Gu Xi’s father care so much about Gu Xi?

In her previous life, Gu Chang had a smooth career path and became a powerful official. However, the second old master of the Gu family only treated Gu Xi with superficial kindness. In this life, Gu Chang had not secured his position and influence yet, so how could the second old master of the Gu family be so upset over Gu Xi’s marriage so much so that he fell ill in bed?

Was Gu Chang saying this to justify his actions? Or did he really think she had gone too far and wanted to ruin her image in Pei Yan’s mind? Or was he trying to get the word out about this through Pei Yan?

Whatever the case may be, Yu Tang was a little disappointed in Gu Chang.

Instead, it was Yu Wen, who was all tensed up listening and asked Pei Yan anxiously, “Did the eldest young master of the Gu family really say that?”

Pei Yan lightly glanced at Yu Wen.

Yu Wen touched his nose furtively.

Pei Yan did not exaggerate Gu Chang’s words. However, Gu Chang only made that comment because he wanted to grumble about it in front of him. It was also because at the time when Gu Chang spoke of Lady Yu, he had put in a few goods words in defence of the Yu family.

He thought about it and shared with both of them what happened. “Lady Gu is extremely unhappy with the marriage, but Second Old Master Gu felt that since the marriage was already fixed, withdrawing from the marriage at this time would not only damage the Gu family’s reputation, but also make it difficult for Lady Gu to get married in the future. However, letting the Li family off the hook like this would be too generous towards the Li family. The second old master called Mrs. Li in and reprimanded her. Mrs. Li was also quite the character. She was able to cunningly stretch and bend, and in front of so many people in the Gu family, she knelt down on her knees and heavily kowtowed three times to Second Old Master Gu, making her forehead bleed in the process. As a result, it placed second old master Gu in a difficult position whether should he help her up or not, and it was not good to continue berating her. Who knew that Lady Gu would despise the Li family even more after finding out about this. When Gu Chang returned, she made it clear that she wanted to withdraw from the marriage. Gu Chang was afraid that Lady Gu might end up marrying the wrong person, but also felt that she had acted too impulsively, so he thought that since I was from Lin’an. It would be good to ask me for a second opinion.”

He didn’t mention the rest.

Madam Li was hiding away in Hangzhou, it must be that she was afraid that the wound on her forehead would be seen and she wouldn’t be able to explain it well.

Yu Tang held back her laughter. However, her bright eyes were sparkling with moisture, like a lake reflecting mountains and light, shining with brilliance.

Pei Yan was stunned for a moment.

Yu Tang had already voiced her appreciation, saying “It’s all thanks to you, if it weren’t for your kind words in defence, I’m afraid that Eldest young master Gu wouldn’t have just left with only a few words of complaint.”

Yu Wen felt perplexed, and only after a moment did he react.

After thinking about the conversation, it was not difficult to understand why Yu Tang had to thank Pei Yan.

If Pei Yan hadn’t favoured the Yu family, with Gu Chang’s status and intellect, why would he outwardly say anything bad about the Yu family?

He hadn’t even thought of it, but his Yu Tang had already thought of it at once.

Yu Wen was proud of her.

Pei Yan, on the other hand, gave Yu Tang a deep, contemplative look.

He figured that Lady Yu was quite capable at causing trouble, but he didn’t expect her to be so perceptive and actually appreciated his unspoken kindness.

Was it only a coincidence this time? Or did he underestimate Lady Yu and fail to realize that she had such a caring perceptive side?

Pei Yan immediately felt contented.

He thought that Lady Yu was still quite intelligent.

It was very easy to speak with Lady Yu.

He replied, “There is no need for you to worry about this matter. Although Gu Chaoyang is arrogant and unrestrained, he is good at maintaining his reputation. Only in front of me would he dare to say a few words recklessly. He will not share this in front of outsiders. What he says will end with me. The only reason I asked you over was to remind you of a few things. After all, the Gu family are outsiders and not residents of Lin’an City, so I will take care of anything that happens, you don’t need to pay any attention to him.”

It turns out that Gu Chang was such a person in Pei Yan’s mind.

Yu Tang was a little surprised.

And in her mind, Pei Yan was not a warm-hearted and outwardly helpful person, but this time, he took the initiative to help them.

It was evident that with time, as people got along with each other, there would be a bond that’s created. Only when there is a good relationship, will they help each other out.

Yu Tang then thought about how she would have to repay Pei Yan.

Yu Wen’s heart settled down at once.

He asked Pei Yan, “So is this matter will be settled like this?”

Yu Tang looked at Pei Yan and listened at the side.

Pei Yan always felt as though Yu Tang’s eyes could speak, and the more she looked at him quietly, the more he could feel Yu Tang’s emotions, almost like a child.

He couldn’t help but say gently: “Don’t worry, I’ve already spoken to Gu Chang. Even if he should have any ideas, on my account, he won’t bother Lady Yu. Besides, the reason for his visit to Lin’an was for Lady Gu’s marriage, so there’s no need for him to cause trouble. That wouldn’t do him any favors, and he would only be subjected to needless comments.”

His words implied an intention to suppress Gu Chang.

Yu Wen nodded his head repeatedly, not knowing how to thank Pei Yan for being so kind.

Yu Tang, however, smiled bitterly in secret, knowing that she owed Pei Yan yet another great favor.

Thinking of this, she told Pei Yan about her encounter with Gu Chang at the entrance of the local school.

Pei Yan was a bit surprised and after a brief pause, he thanked Yu Tang and said, “Both Gu and Shen are major families in Hangzhou City, it is only right for him to visit Mr. Shen when he visits Lin’an City.”

Delicate Flower – Chapter 41

Chapter 41 – Humiliation

Late afternoon, Yu Yuan came back and they had nothing else to do except wait for Master Qian’s side and see if there was any news.

Yu Wen waited worriedly as he played chess with the innkeeper to pass the time. Yu Yuan couldn’t sit still, so he informed Yu Wen and wandered off onto the streets, wanting to check out what business was flourishing in Hangzhou, what everyone was doing and how they did business.

Yu Tang was in her room making flower head pieces.

Someone came in and asked, “Does Master Yu stay here?”

Yu Wen looked up as he replied, “Who’s looking for me?”

The visitor was about fifteen or sixteen years old, with red lips and white teeth, dressed in servant garbs. He smiled and said, “I am Master Zhou’s servant, our master asked me to see if you are in the inn.” Saying that, he ran away speedily.

Yu Wen was puzzled as he hurriedly called out to the boy, “Master Zhou? Which Master Zhou!”

No sooner had he said that, he saw the boy walking in with Zhou Zi Jin and Pei Yan.

Yu Wen smiled brightly as he went up to meet them, bowing and said, “I was wondering who would it be? It turns out to be First ranked imperial Scholar Zhou. Why are you here? Is there something you want to see me about?” He also bowed towards Pei Yan.

Pei Yan still held a disinterested look as he nodded towards Yu Wen.

Zhou Zi Jin said, “I heard that your daughter fell sick? We should have came yesterday to visit, but we had arranged a meeting with someone and the meal lasted all the way till late noon. I was also feeling a little tipsy, so not to seem discourteous, I didn’t visit yesterday. How is she now? Is your daughter feeling better? Is there anything we can do to help?”

Yu Wen was touched after hearing this and replied, “I’ve already taken Master Pei’s namecard to ask the imperial physician to come over and take a look. I’m sorry to have bothered you both. I was intending to go to the Pei residence in a couple of days to show my appreciation, but I didn’t expect both of you to come over first, I’m really sorry.” After speaking, he thanked Pei Yan alone again.

Pei Yan did not say anything much as he accepted Yu Wen’s thanks.

Yu Wen said, “What are First ranked imperial scholar Zhou and Master Pei doing later? Why don’t I be the host this time. We can find a restaurant or pavilion nearby and I’ll treat the two of you to a few drinks.”

Zhou ZiJin’s eyes lit up, obviously very interested in this, but the person next to him, Pei Yan answered before he had a chance to reply. “There’s no need for that. You must be busy with many things to do. Let’s drink together later when we have the chance.”

Yu Wen thought that PeiYan was refusing out of politeness, so his tone became more sincere. “We’ll talk about future matters when we meet in future. I don’t know how happy I am that you came to see my daughter. If you leave like this, how would you make me feel? Especially Master Pei, if it wasn’t for your namecard yesterday, my daughter wouldn’t have known what was it that she suffered!”

“That was also a coincidence!” Pei Yan said indifferently, insistent on leaving.

Zhou ZiJin wanted to stay, but seeing that Pei Yan did not seem to refusing out of politeness, he stepped in and said, “I’m really not trying to be polite with you. We just came to see your daughter today. Since your daughter is fine, we will take our leave.”

Of course, Yu Wen couldn’t let them go just like that and stopped the two of them from leaving.

Zhou ZiJin said helplessly. “It’s not that I don’t want to accede to your request, but it’s really that Xia Guang he …… caused your precious daughter to eat until she had a terrible stomachache. Because of this, he refused to let me go to the night market over at Little River Imperial Street …… “

Zhou Zijin had a very regretful look on his face.

However, just after speaking this, they heard the sounds of a door closing on the second floor guest room.

The people could not help but look upwards in unison, only to see the closed door of the room.

Yu Wen thought about it and laughed: “It’s probably my daughter, apologies!”

“It’s fine!” Zhou ZiJin laughed.

Pei Yan, however, did not even lift an eyebrow from the beginning to the end.

Yu Tang who was in the room, her face was red as she bit her nails and circled the room.

Wasn’t Pei Yan here to see what imperial censor? Why did he come here for? The Meijia Bridge and their Ruyi Inn, one was in the north and the other one in the west.

However, the Pei family pawnshop was here.

Could it be that he came to the Pei family pawnshop for business and was pulled over by Zhou Zi Jin on the way?

How come she didn’t think of this?

It’s so humiliating!

She ate something and caused herself to have a stomachache.

This incident was enough for Pei Yan to laugh for the rest of his life, right?

Yu Tang felt that she was too ashamed to meet with others.

Especially just now – when she heard someone shouting her father’s name, she ran out to see what was going on. She ended up seeing PeiYan and panicked. She lost her footing when she closed the door, making a loud noise …… she really wanted to disappear into a crack in the ground!

Yu Tang was filled with chagrin, and suddenly was a little glad that she was still fasting.

This way she can hide in her room and not go out.

Yu Tang breathed a sigh of relief, thinking she should make her flower head pieces properly, and if she was quicker, she might be able to make one for her mother.

However, even though she had the needle in her hand, she didn’t know where to put it, her mind was caught in a mess and she was full of conflicting thoughts. She was wasn’t in the mood to sew anymore and decided to leave it aside , thinking that she’d do them later.

When she calmed down, the sun was already setting, and the innkeeper lady sent her some warm water.

Yu Tang suddenly felt so hungry that she could not sit up straight.

She asked, “Where is my father?”

“He’s downstairs playing chess with our boss!” The innkeeper lady smiled and said enviously, “Yesterday when I saw second supervisor Tong with Master Pei’s namecard, I thought that your family and the Pei family were on really good terms. I didn’t expect that Master Pei actually came in person to visit the sick today. You’re from a respectable family in Lin’an, right? But Master Yu’s attire is very simple – as expected of a scholar’s family, low-profile and modest.”

Yu Tang was stunned.

Her father did not invite Pei Yan out for a meal?

She couldn’t help but ask, “You, you also know the third master of the Pei family?”

“Know? Of course I know him!” The innkeeper lady cheerfully answered, “Who in our area wouldn’t know the three masters of the Pei family! We all rely on the Pei family to make a living. This inn is owned by the Pei family, and the street where you bought the materials for the head flower pieces is also owned by the Pei family. However, this is the first time Third Master Pei came to our door. The Third Master is so handsome! The last time I saw him, the grand elder was still in his prime, and he was only 13 or 14 years old. The grand elder came over here to check the accounts in the pawnshop, and Third Master Pei accompanied him. However he seemed to be in a bad mood, sitting outside on the stone railing by the imperial river. Everyone had never seen such a beautiful young man, so they all wanted to take a closer look, but didn’t dare to, so they found some reason to walk around him. Only the young lady from the Cai family from the streets behind was bold enough to throw a flower to him. He only looked at it without saying a word. Everyone thought it was amusing, so several people followed the Cai family’s young lady’s example and threw flowers to him, as well as throwing their handkerchiefs.

“He got so angry at this and ran away in a huff.

“To this day, I can still remember his expression then .”

“Really?!” Yu Tang laughed out loud with delight just thinking about it.

“Really!” The innkeeper lady also laughed and her gaze became gentle, “So many years have passed, and the third master have only grown more and more handsome, however, it seems that his temper is also getting worse.”

“That’s right!” Yu Tang speedily agreed, thinking of his expression when she met him several times, and then after reflecting on the innkeeper lady’s words, not only did she not feel afraid of him anymore, but also felt a strange sense of camaraderie with him. She said, “When did Master Pei leave? Didn’t my father ask him to stay for dinner?”

“Your father did ask.” The innkeeper lady, surmising that she could rarely talk to people about Pei Yan, so she laughed and continued, “However, master Pei did not agree, and First-ranked imperial scholar had to follow. He’s still as unapproachable as before.”

Yu Tang pursed her lips and smiled, the gloomy feeling in her heart was swept away, and she didn’t care so much about eating until she had a stomachache anymore.

After all, compared to PeiYan being thrown flowers by the young girls and running away in shame, this wasn’t much, right?

Delicate Flower – Chapter 32

Chapter 32: Thief

The brows of Yu Tang knitted as she heard the scolding of Old Aunty Chen.

It’s true, Old Aunty Chen’s words were indeed logical.

Their house was burgled twice and both times happened when Yu Wen was away.

How could there be such a coincidence?

Madam Chen also thought that it was too much of a coincidence as well, so she took Yu Tang to Yu Bo’s house, and asked if Yu Yuan could stay over at their house for a few days while Yu Wen was away.

Yu Bo was still busy with the store, so Madam Wang agreed and discussed with Madam Chen, “Why don’t we settle Ah-tang’s marriage sooner? If you had a son-in-law in your family, then those people wouldn’t dare to break in so easily.”

It all boils down to the fact that they really had too few people in their family.

Madam Chen sighed as she replied, “We still have to wait until after the Wei family’s son’s 49 days funeral period is completed. People treated us fairly, so we can’t be seen as being over-eager. Ah-tang can also afford to wait.”

Madam Wang also sighed and asked their family’s attendant to carry some of Yu Yuan’s daily necessities over.

Some neighbors saw them and inevitably asked some questions.

Madam Chen told the neighbor about what happened in their family. The neighbor also followed with a a sigh, and comforted Madam Chen: “This will be solved once your family recruits a son-in-law. “

“Thank you for your concern.”

Madam Chen and the neighbor politely said a few words, after which she returned home to tidy up the guest room.

Yu Tang squatted in the corridor and played with Little Yellow, but her mind drifted elsewhere as she thought about Pei Yan.

That person was really too much. Arrogantly jumping to conclusions without even listening to any explanations. The Pei family’s immense inheritance that fell into his hands; she really didn’t know how he managed it at all.

Yu Tong sighed sorrowfully, feeling that she had an unfortunate year and she was really down on her luck.

As she hugged Little Yellow and gently stroked its hair, two magistrate-runners came to their door. They said that they were following instructions from Yu Wen to keep a closer eye on this area when they patrolled the streets.

Old Aunty Chen thanked them profusedly and invited the two to come in for tea, instructing Shuang Tao to buy some snacks and refreshments.

These two people not only lived in Lin’an City for many years and even their jobs as magistrate-runners were also passed down in their family. Although they worked for the magistrate as runners, but they knew how to judge the situation fairly, were hardworking and willing to help.

Seeing Old Aunty Chen’s sincerity and that Yu Wen had a reputation for being kind-hearted in Lin’an City, so they made themselves at home, sitting down to drink tea in the front courtyard and chatted with Old Aunty Chen.

“Speaking of it, it’s really strange. This area was always been quiet and peaceful, so how was it that only your house was broken into and twice in a row at that! Could it be because the thieves successfully stole from your house and thus kept it in their minds?” One of them, surnamed Li, asked.

Old Aunty Chen said in reply, “That’s unlikely. Our family didn’t lose anything of much worth the last time. Besides, who in Lin’an city doesn’t know that our family has done several kind deeds in a row recently, so our family’s funds have depleted a lot. Not mentioning other things, just this Mr. Lu’s funeral, our master even borrowed some silver taels from Supervisor Tong! Even if they wanted to steal, they should not target our family!”

Another magistrate-runner surnamed Wang, said. “Perhaps there’s something they wanted to steal that you are unaware of. From my experience, if it wasn’t because their first attempt was unsuccessful, it is highly unlikely that they will come to your house to steal twice in just a few days. Most likely they had a target in mind, which they did not manage to steal it successfully the first time, so this time they came to try again.”

Yu Tong thought so too.

However what was that item on the thief’s mind?

She remembered the incident at Yu Wen’s study.

Could they still have any family heirlooms that even her father didn’t know about?

She voiced her concerns to Madam Chen.

Madam Chen laughed and answered. “Before your grandfather died, he already gave concise instructions on the division of the family assets in his will. It was only after the mourning period was over that your eldest uncle and your father were formally separated into different households. Your eldest uncle, who is a meticulous person, was afraid that the dividing of the assets was unclear, so he not only invited the legal administrator, but also invited two neighbors as witnesses. If there was something valuable, it would have already been stolen by others; why wait until now?”

Yutang remembered in her previous life, there was a family that newly moved into the estate next to the Li family. They dislike the camphor tree planted in the courtyard, so they dug it out and found a box full of silver taels buried underneath……

Anyway, she had nothing much to do, and her mother didn’t pester her to do embroidery recently, so she went to help her father organize the study.

A forgotten lion-embroidered ball underneath the bookcase, a dusty <Abandoned Golden Hairpin> at the top of the cabinet, <Lady Wei’s Tablet> on top of the small bookcase next to it…… Yu Tang even found a box of Cao’s purple-cloud inkstone in a corner of the study.

She took this opportunity to take out all her father’s manuscripts, paintings and calligraphy and rearrange them properly.

When Madam Chen came in, she saw books, paintings, scrolls, inkstones and picture books all scattered on the floor creating a huge mess, looking as though the place had really been burgled. Yu Tang however, was laughing away as she leaned against the bookcase, reading a book with fascination.

“You child!” Madam Chen picked up the books on the floor, and half-laughingly and half-scoldingly said, “I think you are more capable than that thief, look at this place, there isn’t even an empty space for anyone to stand properly.”

Yu Tang happily put down the book in her hands and took a dirty grey pouch out and said, “Mother, guess what’s inside?”

“What is it?” Madam Chen smiled dotingly.

“It’s a flower that I drew for you when I was little.” She delightedly ran over and showed it to Madam Chen, “I remembered that I said I would keep it well, but somehow it disappeared, but today I found it. Look, there is even my handwriting on it.”

Madam Chen took a look at it, and the word “first” was scrawled on it.

She also remembered it, and said with a smile, “This is the first flower I asked you to draw.”

Yu Tang nodded excitedly and said, “I never thought I would hide it in Father’s study at the time.”

Madam Chen laughed and said, “It’s really time for your father’s study to be tidied up properly.”

Mother and daughter were laughing and joking as they organized the things in the study.

The fake painting that Lu Xin sold to their family tumbled out from a corner of the bookcase.

“Why is this here?” Madam Chen mumured as she put it back in its original place.

Yu Tang, however, felt it was an unlucky item and said, “The person is already gone, so what’s the point of keeping it? I’ll take it to the pawnshop tomorrow. Supervisor Tong said that the painting can still be sold for a few taels of silver, so at least we can use it to increase our family’s funds at least a little. In order to arrange Mr. Lu’s funeral, father also borrowed some silver from Supervisor Tong. If we can use this to pay back our debt to Supervisor Tong even by a little, this painting can be considered as returning to its rightful owner.”

Madam Chen thought about it for a while and felt it was a good idea. She laughed and teased, “You have a lot of sneaky ideas.”

Yu Tang naughtily winked and took the scroll back to her room.

In the middle of the night, they were awakened by Little Yellow’s barking, and Yu Yuan’s angry shouts from the study. “Who is it?! Running into our house to steal something?!”

Yu Tang quickly put on her outer garments and ran out. She saw Yu Yuan fighting with a skinny man in black.

“Catch the thief! Catch the thief!” Yu Tang shouted loudly.

The neighbors next door were awakened by the shouts.

The lights came on and the silent Qingzhu Lane became noisy.

The neighbors ran over with sticks or kitchen knives.

The man in black was finally caught.

Old Aunty Chen took the oil lamp and went over.

The thief was actually one of the neighbor’s sons from Qingzhu Lane!

The crowd was in an uproar.

Master Wu was furious and sent someone to call the boy’s parents over and said, “We have to inform your family. Someone like you, will need to be punished by having your name removed from the family’s register.”

The boy was so frightened that he cried out as he clung on to Master Wu’s legs and begged for mercy. “Please don’t tell my family! I, I was framed by someone, I just wanted to steal a few taels of silver, I didn’t mean to hurt anyone’s life, and I also don’t dare to take anyone’s life!”

Master Wu was unmoved and said coldly, “Framed? Who can frame you? I just see a boy who doesn’t have good morals, and that’s why you harbored such evil intentions. People like you are a disgrace to society!”

As he was reprimanding him, the boy’s mother came and kneeled down in front of Madam Chen with a thud, pleading for her son desperately. “As long as you don’t send him to the officials, whatever you say we will comply!”

Madam Chen was put in a very difficult position.

If they didn’t punish him, it’s unfair for her family to have their house broken into for nothing. However, if they punished the boy, everyone had been living in this place as neighbors for decades, and will meet up with one another frequently, so how could they continue to have a good relationship with them in future?

As Yu Tang looked on, she felt it was strange.

She didn’t recognize this kid, but just when his mother kowtowed, he turned his face sideways, as if he couldn’t bear to look, and did not plead with Master Wu further.

She walked over.

The boy was silently weeping.

Yu Tang pondered in her heart, this kid caused such an incident, but his father did not come.

I wonder if it was because he doesn’t have a father? Or that the father doesn’t care?

Whether reason was the former or the latter, both could be used to their advantage.

She pulled Madam Chen’s sleeve and whispered. “The neighbors have helped us a lot this time. You can first invite them to our house to drink some tea. My eldest cousin is here, so we can just tie the boy up first for Ah Cam to guard, and wait for father to come back and settle this.”

Madam Chen thought that it was a good idea, and after discussing with Yu Yuan, she invited everyone into the house for tea.

When everyone saw that the matter was over, who still the heart to drink tea in the middle of the night? So they thanked her for her kindness and said goodbye to Madam Chen.

Madam Chen gratefully sent them out one by one.

Only the boy’s mother, sitting on the ground as if she had lost her will to live; sobbing silently.

Master Wu was a little apprehensive and said, “Why don’t you let my son come over and help you?”

“Your concern is much appreciated!” Yu Yuan respectfully bowed to Master Wu again and said, “I can handle it. It already so is late. Tomorrow when my uncle returns, my uncle and I will come to your door to personally offer our appreciation.”

Seeing that Yu Yuan had things under control, Master Wu nodded his head and went home.

The boy’s mother kept kowtowing to Madam Chen and begging for mercy.

The boy was crying so hard that his whole body was shaking.

Yu Tang pointed to the boy’s mother and said to the boy. “Look at what you did. You even created so much trouble for your mother. If the public keeps silent about the incident, the officials will not investigate it. So tell me the truth, why did you break into our house? If you tell me honestly, I will help you ask my father to let you go. Your mother will not have to suffer from the judging eyes of others, unable to lift up her head high for a lifetime.”

After the boy listened, he looked up at Yu Tang, and hesitated.

Yu Tang noted his expression and continued. “Stealing is a vile behavior, you see those family rules and regulations, who can tolerate those thieves who steal things? My father is the same as Master Wu, he hates this kind of things the most. He may not report it to the officials, but he will definitely ask your family to remove you from the family register and remove your name. When your mother dies, there will be no one left to to help her offer incense……”

The boy’s tears flowed down again as he chokingly replied. “My father gambled outside and our family’s ancestral home was also sold. I, I just wanted to get a few taels of silver to rent a place.”

Yu Tang sighed. “Then I have nothing else to say. You just have to wait for my father to come back and send you to the officials, and find your family’s elders to settle this.”

“No, no!” The boy hurriedly replied, “Lady Yu, you, if you give me five taels of silver, no, give me three taels also will do! I will tell you.”

Yu Tang was unmoved and said sternly. “You still dare to trick me! I wouldn’t give you a single tael of silver. It’s up to you to speak the truth.” After saying this, she got up and looked like she was going to call someone.

The boy panicked and said. “Someone asked me come to your house to steal a painting and promised me five taels of silver for it…… please don’t send me to the officials, I also didn’t manage to steal it……”

TL: I’m sure everyone should have a clue as to the painting he was looking for.
But what’s so special about that painting? It’s becoming more of a mystery novel now, haha. Thanks for reading! 🙂

Chapter 29 – Xiao Chuan

The next day, without waiting for magistrate to come and investigate the theft, Yu Wen quickly set off on his trip to Hangzhou.

Madam Chen and Yu Tang sent him to the harbor.

Near the harbor, Yuwen saw that the pawnshop was manned by Supervisor Tong’s son instead.

Yu Wen couldn’t help but ask curiously. “Where did the Supervisor Tong go?”

Little Supervisor Tong smiled as he replied, “The Pei family has another pawnshop in Hangzhou City. At the beginning of each month, my father will take a trip to check the accounts there. However, with all the recent happenings in Lin’an City, my father was too busy managing things here, and haven’t been able to travel to Hangzhou City for several months. Now that there’s a brief period of lull, he took this opportunity to travel there and take a look.”

The Pei family’s eldest master and grand elder passed away so quickly, one after another, so it’s not surprising that Supervisor Tong didn’t have the time to travel afar.

While Yu Tang was pondering over this, Yu Wen was delighted, saying “The Pei family has another pawn store in Hangzhou City? Where is it? It so happens that I’m traveling to Hangzhou City, so once I’ve reached, I’ll invite him out to have a meal together.” He added, “Had I known that he was also traveling to Hangzhou City, we could have gone together and be companions on the trip.”

After Little Supervisor Tong had instructed an attendant to pour the tea and invited the Yu family to sit and drink, he asked interestedly. “Master Yu, why are you going to Hangzhou City? The Pei family’s pawn store is at Shi yao river in ‘Fangrenli’ area, the store sign is large – five storefronts wide and high above people’s heads – you can definitely see it from afar. My father will stay there for about two or three days. Next to the pawnshop there’s also several bookstores and antique stores. If Master Yu goes there, you can take a look at those shops with my father.”

Yu Wen was disappointed.

He wanted to visit , but Lu Xin’s matter was urgent.

He said regretfully, “Alas, I can only arrange to visit your father another time.”

While they were talking, the boat travelling to Hangzhou City came and Yu Tang and her mother saw Yu Wen aboard.

Before the boat left the pier, another boat arrived. It was a magnificent three-sail boat which docked next to the passenger boat.

All around, people were watching and pointing at it.

Yu Tang saw a dignified-looking man in a green robe briskly making his way over with a group of people, instructing his attendants to lower the boarding plank.

Someone at the side spoke excitedly, “See, that’s Pei Man, the Pei family’s Head Steward.”

“Really?” Someone answered, “Step aside and let me have a look!”

Yu Tang curiously stood on her tiptoes to have a better look.

The man named Pei Man was around twenty-seven or eight years old. He had a slender face with a resolute and unwavering gaze. He had a solemn aura about him and seemed difficult to talk to.

Yu Tang pursed her lips.

The servant really resembled his master.

One look and you will know he’s the kind of person Third master Pei would have around.

He was exactly like him!

She criticized him silently in her heart.

She saw a man in a white brocade coat step out of the large boat. He was in his thirties, with a trimmed moustache and a black-lacquered gold framed fan in his hand and looked arrogant. Just after he alighted from the boat, he said to Pei Man indignantly. “Where is Xia Guang? Why didn’t he come to pick me up? I came from the capital, which is so far away, just to see him! It’s fine that he didn’t go to Hangzhou City to welcome me, but I’ve already arrived at Shaoxi Harbor, and he still didn’t come out! Is this the way to treat a guest?”

Pei Man respectfully bowed low towards the man, addressing him as “First ranked imperial scholar Zhou”, and said, “Our Third Master is troubled by family matters. Otherwise, with your friendship with our third master, how could our third master not come to welcome you?”

First ranked imperial scholar Zhou coldly snorted as he complained, “I told him to leave those troublesome things alone. How is living in the countryside any good? He didn’t want to listen. Now, serves him right, such a beautiful day and he has to sort out those problematic household affairs. Thinking about it, I feel sorry for him.”

Pei Man kept a smile on his face and did not reply.

First-ranked imperial scholar Zhou, who probably did not expect Pei Man to answer, waved his hand and said, “Let’s go! Where is the carriage? Xia Guang is aware of my temper, what type of incense is lit in the carriage?”

Pei Man quickly replied, “This was personally instructed by Third Master Pei. The incense used is the White Pear Blossom made by our family’s Third Master himself.”

As First-ranked imperial scholar Zhou listened, he glanced at Pei Man and snickered. “No wonder Xia Guang chose you to be his right-hand man, just this ability to tell lies unflinchingly and yet not let people dislike you, is sufficient for you to take on this role. Your Third Master doesn’t use incense, let alone make any incense for himself. “

Pei Man was indeed eloquent in speaking as he smiled unbothered, and replied, “Everyone says that the bond between you and our Third Master was as close as brothers, so it’s only you that will know our Third Master so well.”

However, his smile was a little cold and detached.

His words though, clearly made First-ranked imperial scholar Zhou happy and he didn’t bother to make anymore fuss as he ‘swished’ opened his fan and fanned it twice, before saying. “Lead the way.”

Pei Man politely make a gesture to “please go ahead” and accompanied First-ranked imperial scholar Zhou to the carriage parked next to the harbor.

The servants came down from the boat carrying many crates.

Just a glance and Yutang saw that there were at least more than a dozen wooden crates, each painted with good quality tung oil, shining so brightly that it can even chase away a person’s shadow. The four corners of the wooden crates were embellished with auspicious clouds pattern of brass. There were also seven or eight women wearing plain clothing and covered veils standing along the sides of the boat, as if they were waiting to alight. Yutang didn’t know if they were First-ranked imperial scholar Zhou’s maids or his female relatives.

The onlookers around her exploded into a flurry of gossip.

“This should be Third Master Pei’s good friend, right?”

“He came from the capital, and is also a First-ranked imperial scholar! Third Master Pei is really impressive.”

“Look at this setting, this Imperial Scholar must also be from a prestigious family.”

However Yu Tang’s thought drifted off to another matter altogether. It turns out that the Pei family’s third master ‘Zi’ name was “Xia Guang”.

Did it mean “love kept secret in the heart, but desperately yearns to confess”, or “in a million years, remains steady and upright”?

Or is it “mountain views of luscious green, the emerald pines gleams with a mesmerizing light.”1

The Pei family’s third master was indeed imposing and steady as a bamboo, shining luminously as a pearl and strikingly outstanding in appearance.

Then, there’s this First-ranked imperial scholar Zhou .

She hadn’t heard of him in her previous life and she didn’t know which topic he scored first place in. But that proud and arrogant demeanor is indeed reminisce of Third Master Pei, so no wonder the two were good friends.

Yu Tang thought as the passenger boat ferrying Yuwen sailed away from the harbor.

Her mother and her waved goodbye to her father until the boat had sailed away into the distance, only then she assisted her mother to go to the pawn store and greet little supervisor Tong before heading home.

First-ranked imperial scholar Zhou and Pei Man had long since disappeared, and there was only a man dressed as a steward there instructing the servants to load the crates.

The crates were piled up high in the two horse carriages and there were still many crates to be packed.

Yu Tang was struck silent with shock.

Only a small visitation trip and they brought along so many things with them. From this, you already tell how much attention he paid to such things.

She became curious about the identity of this First-ranked imperial scholar Zhou.

Back home, Ah Cam brought back a small golden haired dog as per Yu Wen’s instructions.

The dog’s small body, soft fur and big, puppy dog eyes warmed people’ s hearts just by looking at it.

Yu Tang couldn’t resist squatting down to pet the puppy and it barked softly underneath her palm.

Her heart melted as she asked Ah Cam: “Where did you find it? Does it have a name?”

Ah Cao smiled and said, “It’s from one of my neighbors in my hometown, called Third Yellow.”

Yu Tang asked curiously, “Why is it called Third Yellow?”

Ah Cam laughed and said sheepishly, “Their dog had four pups at once, and this is the third one, so I just called it Third Yellow.”

Yu Tang laughed, “But this is the only one in our family, so let’s call it Little Yellow.”

Everyone agreed.

Old Aunty Chen gave it some rice mixed with bone broth.

Little Yellow ate it with much enthusiasm.

Madam Chen found it amusing and came over to pet its head.

Yu Tang thought she still had some dried meat in her room given by Ma Xiuniang, so she ran back inside to get it, but she heard some noises near the back door.

Everyone was in the front courtyard, could it be a thief?

As Yu Tang pondered, she took a stick and shouted loudly “Who’s there?!”

Not only did it not grow quieter, but a loud “clang” sounded as someone threw a stone into their backyard.

This wasn’t a thief, it was someone who was unhappy with their family.

Yu Tang was very angry.

Their family has always been good to others, and there has never been a verbal dispute between neighbors, and the theft that happened previously only stole some food away, so perhaps it was just a prank.

She quickly pushed open the back door and saw a boy dress in light blue clothing running away from the back door of their house.

Because it was morning and it was a back alley, there wasn’t anyone around, so Yutang could see clearly who the person was and thus, she couldn’t help but stare in confusion, “Wei Xiaochuan?”

Yes, that boy was the Wei Xiaochuan she had met on her last meeting with the Wei Family.

Why did he come to the back door of their house? And even after knowing his presence was discovered, why did he still throw stones at their back door? It seems like there is some kind of discontentment.

She remembered the last time he took a branch and beat the weeds around him.

He also looked angry and dissatisfied.

What exactly did their family do to upset him?

Thinking of Wei Xiaoshan, she quietly asked Ah Cam to check. “The youngest son of the Wei family, named Wei Xiaochuan, can you keep on eye on him and see what he has been doing lately?”

Ah Cao had previously followed Yu Wen to the Wei family for the funeral arrangements before. He answered, “He should be attending school, right? I heard the people of the Wei family say that he was listening when his brothers were being taught. He could already read and write at the age of three, and at the age of five he could recite the whole book of <Filial Piety>. Although he’s young, he was able to enter the school early, and it is estimated that he will be taking the exam next year.”

Yu Tong was taken aback by this and became more worried if something had happened to this child. According to her reasoning, such a precocious child should not behave so unruly.

Ah Cam went away, and came to tell her shortly that Wei Xiaochuan was obediently attending school.

Yu Tang thought about it and asked Shuang Tao to take a few boxes of snacks and took Ah Cam to the school.

Although Wei Xiaochuan was reluctant, he came out of the school with a tense face and asked Yu Tang coldly, “What do you want from me? Our families doesn’t have anything to do with each other anymore!”

Yu Tang felt that there was something wrong with what he said.

She said, “Don’t tell me that you weren’t the one who threw stones at our house this morning. As a man, if you have courage to do it, admit it. Whatever you want to say, say it. Now this shrinking back and cowering, what kind of conduct is this? “

After all, Wei Xiaochuan was just a young boy. After hearing this, his eyes quickly turned red and he said loudly, “You think I don’t dare to find you? It was my fourth brother who stopped me. You are a vixen, a beauty that brings disaster. My second brother is very good at swimming. Just because he wanted to marry you, he went to the river to catch some fish, and drowned. And my third brother, after hearing that you are beautiful and that your family chose my second brother as your family’s son-in-law, fought with my second brother. Now that my second brother is gone, my third brother regrets it dearly and feels that he spoiled his relationship with second brother and is unable to live with himself. If it weren’t for you, how would my second and third brothers be in such a state!”

Yu Tong was shocked into silence.

“Don’t you come looking for me! If you come to me again, I’ll tell everyone about all the ‘good’ things you’ve done!” Wei Xiaochuan yelled at her and ran away quickly.

Yu Tang felt her body grow cold and she couldn’t even stand up.

In her previous life, Madam Lin also called her a vixen, but Yutang only laughed coldly in her heart. Now, Wei Xiaochuan scolded her, but she remembered Wei Xiaoshan’s eyes that looked at her with pure joy and happiness, as bright as the morning star.

Her tears couldn’t help but fall down.

1. I tried my best to explain all three sayings, but it’s really hard as they are mostly extracted from ancient poems and songs and seriously, SUPER difficult to translate. In short, they’re just complicated expressions complimenting Third Master Pei.

Mini-break~

Had a short week-long  break after my dissertation draft submission and before mugging for exams.

So over these few days, I’ve been squeezing in fun things to do, haha. Went to the zoo, usual shopping and meetups with friends. Planning a meetup with a friend I haven’t seen in ages to go to this artisan-ish flea market thing at night~ Super looking forward to that, haha!

Just went to the local swimming pool today with ys. Was amazing~ Revisiting my childhood, haha. The first time I went to this swimming pool, I was so awestruck by the huge(at least 3-4 storeys high) water slides, wave pool and canal-ish ‘lazy’ pool. It was like being in water wonderland for me as a kid, so it was pretty fun to go back after more than 10years and see it with a fresh new perspective.

The day begun on a pretty off note. My googles broke. So I had to buy another set outside(costed me another entrance fee ticket. :x) Then afterwards I changed into my swimsuit and seriously, you would think those guys haven’t seen a female in a swimsuit at all. They were really blatantly ogling. And it wasn’t that I had a bikini or something. Or that I looked like a Victoria Secret model. Total opposite. I was just plain old me with my one-piece swimsuit. But it seriously made me feel uncomfortable. I even had my friend partially shield me while we were walking past certain sections. Especially when even the water slide uncle was like saying to the guys behind who didn’t have tube floats, “You need tube floats for this ride; come here just to look at pretty girl arh?” And given that I was the only one in the line it was kinda obvious who he was referring to.

But otherwise, it was a really awesome experience! Played in the kid’s pool playground, talked while we floated down the ‘lazy’ pool(we seriously spent a long time just going round and talking about random stuff, haha) Although our main purpose was actually to exercise and swim properly in the normal lap pool, only one hour was spent there and the rest of the afternoon/evening was spent on the water attractions, haha. Highlight of the day had to be the rainbow at the wave pool. When the early evening light rays hit the water sprays, it resulted in the most clear rainbow I’ve ever seen! It was seriously magical. Plus it was so close and the rainbow extended to into the water owing to the water drizzles. It was a rainbow that went past 180degrees! Ys said that rainbows theoretically form an entire circle and it was really true! Although I didn’t see a complete circle I could see the arch the indicated it could actually form a circle. We spent pretty long there,  just admiring it and getting sad over the fact that our phones/cameras were kept in the lockers, haha. Thereafter, we just laid in the shallow waters and chatted idly.

Totally amazing day then I’ll never forget~ Although now all I wanna do is just sleep. Going to the river safari tomorrow at 9am. Another hectic day, but I hope these adventures never stop. ❤

Drama.

Just a few incidents with my flatmate.
Lead me thinking about how Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey situation, where she(Nicki) overcompensated by being crazier?(interview on Ellen). Haha.

Okay. Well…. hmms. I guess I have to say it from the start. So starting fro the arrival into Birmingham, UK. Since I was sharing an apartment(not the room) with her, I went along with her friends to go explore, had a potluck. Basically fun stuff. The next day, I had a lecture and I begged her to come with me instead going with her friends(potentially, no plans yet). She reluctantly agreed and I was over the moon. We had the lecture and I took extra set of notes and she told me to give it to her friend who was going to attend that module. And she said”I’ll ask him to go with you the next time, ok?” I was like yay! all smiles. (: (: (:

Then apparently, I’m not too sure about it.. But I think they went for dinner or something without me that night. The next day, we had a school tour sort of thing. I asked her if she could tell me when she was going to leave and if I could go with her and her friends. She agreed. Though, I could tell her was getting a bit colder with me, no idea why though. Later, she knocked on my door at like 11:30am(the meeting time was at 12pm and it was near the school? About 10minute walk at most) and I wasn’t ready yet(Thought we were leaving at 11:45am), so she said we’ll meet you at the place at 12pm. I was like… okay. But the truth was, I was already  pretty much dressed, I just need to put on a shawl and my overcoat, but she didn’t even want to wait. In the end, I went there, but I didn’t see any sign of her or her friends. So I was like “Okay, they ditched me? Nevermind.” Since I actually was able to chat with some other people who came at the designated time as well. But I kinnnnda felt I was left out. But I was like, it’s only natural though…since we barely even knew each other before this exchange programme thing. Although I thought we bonded while we had the lecture and had 2 dinners and 1 breakfast together. The next night, she went with her friends to the next apartment and started to cook there. So I figured, oh well, have to prepare my own meal. So I just made some salad, took some biscuits and jam with me to my room. Thereafter, she knocked at my door and asked if I wanted to join them for dinner. Internally, I was like… shouldn’t you have told me earlier when you were preparing? So that I could go over and actually cook with you guys? But I already had my food and all, and it would be weird  if I suddenly went over, and ate their food. I’m not that type of person. So I just said, No, but thanks. Since I prepared my food already.

The next day, her friend saw me and said “Hey! You should have joined us! You don’t have to eat alone.”
I replied that I had food already but she fervently argued that I should have just joined them anyway. Feeling mollified, I said “okay, the next time then.” But then afterwards, as a group they were so clingy. For example, we went to the comp lab for some admin stuff and there were 4 chairs in each row. (There were 5 of us.) I figured that she would maybe split us 3-2 in the front and back, but her friend was just yelling to the other person. “We’re here! Come here. insertnamehere.” And when the guy came over, I was like okay, oh great. Before they asked me to shove off, I just move elsewhere.  From then on it was me against them. And I was like… okay… you want to form your own special circle? It’s okay. So I got the message and left.

Then the following incidents were of that overcompensating thing Nicki Minaj said, I guess. I was cooking stir-fry veggies and I saw her soya sauce bottle. I was like oh, that would be perfect for the dish! So I added a tiny drop. And it was perfect. But she found out and wasn’t happy about it. I was like… okay. It was my fault I guess. Then earlier today, she asked me of I gave the notes(during that lecture we attended together) to her friend. I actually did give lecture 1, but not lecture 2 and 3 since I was attending with a friend I just gave it to my friend instead. And besides, the lecturer gave out extra copies of those notes during the lecture that her friend attended anyway. She had a sour face and I knew she was hating me for it.  Plus, she’s a girl. And girls hold the longest of grudges. I was like …ooh boy. I’m going to die for the remaining of my time here. And if she spreads the message and twist and embellish it somehow like what every girl does, I’m really not going to have a pleasant time here. I’m going to have cold stares, bitter brush-offs and…. oh what fun!

These two incidents kinda just twisted and really made her mad at me. hmmms. Watch the interview with Nicki Minaj. Perhaps all of this drama will make sense. Which is strange because I’m not that type of person that has a lot of drama in my life. Like oh, she backstabbed me! She took my  bf! And all that crazy shit. I don’t have all that. Haiz. I think I’m just being too sensitive as usual. Meh. What is done is done. I’ll try to apologise, but if her doesn’t accept that then ….ah well.
Nothing I can do about it.

So anyway….

Task is to kill 100 wolf spiders. The monsters spawn rate is pretty decent, meso to experience ratio is AWESOME. 8) It’s perfect if you’re a person(Like me) that value mesos more than experience.
And you get 5 leaf crystal buffs + 2 fame! The buffs are better than average and each last for 20minutes! Perfect for PQing and solo Mon Park. And stack up with the coin cake buff? PWNAGE. 8) ~ Edited 21st July ’12

That’s about it for now. ❤
